Details & Highlights

The New Ideas for the English Classroom course is designed specifically for overseas teachers of English who specialise in teenage and adult students. Participants should have at least an Upper Intermediate (B2) level of English.

You can enrol for one or two weeks, although 2 weeks is recommended.  Each week there are 22.5 hours of sessions including one excursion into central London. You can also join our guided self study sessions and take part in our regular programme of cultural and social activities.

The course will improve your English and is designed to demonstrate a range of activities for use in the English language classroom. You will take part in small group and pair work activities, open discussions, seminars and workshops in order to increase your language level and experience a range of modern communicative language teaching techniques as well as considering other methodologies. The language enhancement element of the course is based on the linguistic levels and needs of the group.

The combined experience of the participants is an important part of the programme, with everyone encouraged to reflect on and share their problems and ideas in order to develop a better understanding of teaching English. All sessions will include error correction to further enhance your knowledge of the language. By the end of the course, you will have improved your English and increased your confidence and skills as a classroom practitioner.

Although the course is adapted to the needs of each group, sessions could include –

  • The Lexical Approach
  • Learning Styles
  • Task-based Learning
  • Collaborative Writing
  • Idioms & Slang
  • Using authentic Video/DVD
