Your First Day

Most people feel nervous when they start something new so we will try to make you feel comfortable as quickly as possible on your first day at Excel English.

Watch this video to learn about your first day at our school –

Details & Highlights

We want you to start enjoying yourself immediately, so we –

  • tell you about the school, Muswell Hill and London
  • introduce you to our Student Handbook which is full of useful information on what to expect at the school, where to go for help, and living in London
  • give you maps of the local area, and also of the London underground, and explain how to travel around.
  • give you details of the social activities we have planned and how you can join them

The tests we give you to find out your level of English include –

  • grammar & vocabulary
  • writing
  • speaking & listening

After the tests are marked, we place you in the class which will help you make the best progress.  We will give you your personal timetable and textbook the next morning.

  • Your homestay host or the student residence will give you information about how to travel to school on your first day
  • You need to arrive at school by 8.30am
  • Come to Reception, where our Client Services Team will be expecting you
  • You need to bring your passport so we can take a photocopy of it
  • If you bring a passport-sized photograph of yourself, we will make you an Excel English Student ID card

After lunch on your first day, you will –

  • explore the local area with a member of our staff, so you know where to find the banks, post office, cinema, shops, pubs and restaurants
  • travel into central London for a free sightseeing tour of some of the main London sights and have your first experience of the London Underground

At the end of your busy first day, you will have begun making friends and will have started enjoying Muswell Hill and central London.

You will also feel relaxed and confident, and ready to start learning English!
